Cake stands bring the drama to a homemade birthday cake, of course. But I could think of all kinds of excuses totally logical reasons for gathering a collection of them.

I love a pressed-glass cake plate as much as any other home baker, but I was surprised how much I adore this 1960s textured fruit version from Inarco. And under $20, shipped!
In the market for glass instead? Pick your hue: Cobalt blue with vine design ($44); glorious green ($55) or avocado ($37); Czech ruby cut glass ($50) or a stunning teeny pink-to-red ombré ($21). And while maybe we’re not ready to shell out for opalescent grandeur, you can nab a white crimped-edged Fenton milk glass plate for $50.
